Crossing Dry Roads to Deliver Hope
Hasakeh-Deir Ezzor Borders.
In October 2017, DOZ Syria, with financial support from DOZ e.V. Germany, launched a critical water and sanitation response for thousands of displaced families who fled ISIS-held areas in Deir Ezzor and sought safety in the Al-Malha emergency accommodation center in Hasakeh governorate.
DOZ teams traveled long and dangerous routes to reach the remote and underserved camp, delivering 20 water tanks (800 liters each) and organizing emergency water trucking services to ensure access to clean drinking water for over 27,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) — including women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

At a time when international humanitarian presence was nearly absent, DOZ’s intervention alleviated the burden of unbearable summer heat, dehydration, and poor hygiene. Camp residents had already endured unimaginable trauma and hardship; DOZ’s water support became a lifeline in their daily struggle for dignity.
Despite limited resources, DOZ's leadership promised to continue responding to the urgent needs — from child nutrition and medical aid to shelter and hygiene support — and echoed the call for international actors to step in and help the displaced population facing extreme weather and worsening conditions.
